Why “bauherr.”
Bauherr - German for “the one who builds.”
It describes the person who carries the vision -the one for whom it is built.
In our work, we take that meaning literally.
The client is at the center of everything we do. We design the kitchen system around them -their routines, values, and way of living define what the space must become.
As the designer, we protect that vision, translate it into structure, and guide it through every technical and aesthetic decision until it’s real.
It’s a shared authorship.
They live in it.
We make it live beautifully.
At atelier bauherr., every kitchen is a collaboration between the one who envisions the one who brings the design to life.

Transformations in Space and Story

Designing the Way People Live
Each kitchen begins as a dialogue, between architecture, space, and the way people truly live.
What follows is a process of refinement: proportion, detail, and rhythm brought into quiet balance.
Read the story behind each transformation.
Every space, and every family, has its own rhythm, needs, and dreams.
Discover how we translate those into spaces, that feel lived in, loved, and truly your own.

A Way of Thinking About Kitchen Design.
Systems, clarity, and living with decisions.

Design as a System
Kitchen design is not a list of choices.
It’s a system.
The room, your priorities, and the appliances all influence one another. Every decision creates a chain reaction somewhere else in the plan.
When these relationships are understood early, planning becomes clearer and more intentional.
Adjustments happen with awareness, not guesswork.
Good kitchens come from coordination, not isolated decisions.
Certainty over Assumption
“I like to sleep tight, without worrying that problems might arise later.”
— Sabrina Antony
A plan only matters if it can be built the way it was intended.
That’s why bauherr. focuses on clarity early.
Understanding existing conditions.
How systems run.
How elements interact.
How one decision naturally affects the next.
Not to add complexity,
but to remove ambiguity.
When decisions are clear,
they can move forward with confidence.

Living with Decisions
People don’t experience kitchens as plans.
They experience them every day.
What feels abstract during planning becomes very real in daily use.
Small decisions compound over time.
That’s why early clarity matters.
So the kitchen feels intuitive to live in, not something you keep adjusting mentally.
The goal is ease.
Not perfection, but confidence in the choices made.
ABOUT THE KITCHEN ATELIER
The Studio Behind the Architecture of Everyday Living
Led by designer Sabrina Antony, atelier bauherr. merges over two decades of international kitchen design experience with an architectural approach to everyday living.
Rooted in work across Europe and New York City, Sabrina’s practice bridges the precision of German craftsmanship with the warmth of lived spaces.
Atelier bauherr. is the specialized kitchen system studio within Kitchen Design NYC.
We design kitchens as integrated systems that align space, appliance integration, structure, functionality, and daily use. We take authorship and design ownership of those decisions, guiding them from concept through realization by maintaining design intent and alignment in close collaboration with homeowners, architects, and interior designers.

Design begins
with dialogue.
Share where you are in your planning.
A brief note is enough.
We’ll respond personally.
